The Learning Commons’ pedagogy prioritizes both student‐centered learning and instructor research. Many of our teachers have not only pursued and produced scholarship in their chosen fields, but they are also well studied in the scholarship of teaching – consistently learning, sharing, developing, and putting into practice innovative, engaged teaching. In our classes, we offer students the benefit of teacher expertise, but we also encourage students to develop critical perspectives out of their own experiences, creative practice, and engagement with course subject matter – be it persuasive writing and deliberative speaking in the public sphere, instruction in inclusive pedagogies, personal and analytical essays, English language-acquisition, algebra and trigonometry, and information literacy for engaged writing in the private, public, and civic sphere.
